Feel like a challenge?

This afternoon I muddled my way through several programs that all reckoned they could create crosswords, mostly they lied. Or did a piss poor job of it. Then I found one that worked.
Oh the joy!

You've no idea how joyful it was to discover the program worked, after inputting the clues and words for the sixth time in two hours! There were many colorful phrases spoken.... Breezy has a whole new branch added to her vocab tree.

The result was rather pleasing... but it remains to be seen if it's enjoyable to do. And how exactly it would work. Currently the crossword is a printable pdf. Which is fabulous. There is another pdf with the solution. But how to get the results back off people could be the interesting part...
Although I guess it wouldn't be too hard for a person to take a picture of the finished crossword and send it to me. Or to put the answers in a list format in a .doc and send it to me.

Thinking on it.

Cornevil, saturday night, zombies, and squealing

Current mood: awake

Last night, not late - a little after five we jumped into Lee and Ami's car and headed north.

I do believe there will be a blog that doesn't sing the praises of the old Akatarawa Road. Lee will probably write it. lol
It's almost a single lane and winds up through the Akatarawa valley and over the hills (they could be mountains they're quite high). There are no street lights, there is little sign of life.... quite a few sets of locked rusted tall gates were scene on the way. as darkness began to creep in the road became something from a horror movie set.
The occassional on-coming car proved to be interesting.
I think we all expected to see strange figures by the side of the road that disappeared into the bushes on the backward glance.

Marvelous.

Anyway - the road wound on and eventually (there was much relief) we found ourselves in Waikanae. From there is was State highway 1, up the country through towns and farmland to Sanson. And this.
By the time we arrived it was dark.

We clambered from the car, wondering what would happen next. There was music, and the noise of people, a few cars parked. Chris nudged me. I looked up just as a chainsaw wielding zombie scared the bejesus out of Ami.
I'd seen him lurking behind cars as I got out of the car. Admittedly I was surprised to see a zombie in the car park. Such joy!

We headed toward the noise and the people. I was keeping a weather eye on the darkness behind us - you never know.

We hung around for about half an hour. With a horde of teenagers and the occassional scary dude who wandered through sneaking up on people.

No sign of our neighbor and his family.

Then things happened, ushered into through a 3D room we all sat along the walls and listened to the rules. A zombie type leather masked scary guy took a liking to Ami and reckoned she would make it out of the maze in ten minutes. (It takes about 45... unless you run)

Then we were off. Set free in the maze in our groups. Waiting to go through all you could hear was screaming... we could see torch lights... so those people hadn't gotten far when the screaming began.

Yep, ya don't get far before someone jumps out and grabs ya. (Insert wild screaming here!)

Yes, we got lost.

Yes, we had fun.

The giggling chick behind a wire fence was Chris's favorite... she giggled away then suddenly ran an angle grinder along the fence. Fantastic!

I liked the girl with the doll, who sat in a bath sobbing... the rest of the bathroom was a little covered in guts and entrails. She wa awesome, especially when she leapt out and shoved the doll in our faces. (insert Ami screaming here)

Chainsaw guy - fucking fabulous! We managed to sneak by him while he had some poor girl against a fence. I think she may have been the girlfriend of a boy who took off! I doubt she'll be impressed with his wimpy self and suspect he'll be going home alone.

I noticed the coffins... ones whose lids weren't quite shut were trouble.

The bridge and the troll on the bridge - awesome. The other guy (pirate type I think) who leapt up while the troll had out attention was great.

Not so keen on the clowns. I made a mistake of mentioning clowns... one become rather attached to me. He was pulling my ponytail, patting my head, following me, touching my back and shoulders... whispering in my ear. I think I did rather well to speak to him and not squeal!

When I made a comment in the middle of the maze about Ami's friend coming (she was attracting scary things all over the place) the zombie called back, "I'm not paid enough to make friends."

I found them to be very interactive... which was great cos I couldn't stop myself from talking to them. For a while there I must've been a challenge cos I was attracting them like Ami.

We all knew when Ami had had enough... she was running and pulling Lee along! we had some helpful scary folk point out things like, we'd gone the wrong way, or missed something. That was great, if they hadn't we'd still be there.

All an all, good fun.

I did spot the neighbor - well one of his brothers actually... trying to tip over a portaloo as we exited the maze. I wondered if Kane was in the loo at the time. :)

One glass? I don't think so...

It's ANZAC day. At some stage I have to make biscuits. ANZAC biscuits. Luckily they're dead-easy to make, and only involve one saucepan to prepare.
I have to make them because the Squealer comes home tomorrow from her holiday. (Which means my break is almost over) ANZAC biscuits are one of the few things she really loves. And she was concerned she'd miss out, because she wasn't here. And we cant have that, because it may end in a melt down.

Crikey it's almost eight-thirty. Things to do, places to go, etc. (Well not till later but this could take me awhile and later could happen while I'm distracted.)

There is a suggestion on twitter that the glass of wine I had last night caused me to fall off the couch while watching Rove. I simply don't think so. I doubt it enhanced the amusement factor of Rove overly much either.
But what did happen earlier in the night was this... when I'm writing I tend to see things differently. (Maybe through Ellie's eyes, maybe a combination of Ellie, Mac, and me) Whatever it is, it effects my mood. Mostly in a good way. It's like being high. (You should try it... it's legal and long lasting) I do know it's catchy. I can spread the madness quite easily. Some people are more susceptible than others though.
Every thing yesterday and last night was funny. 'Two and a half men' is brilliant anyway - but last night it was over the top funny.
Plus this whole... I know something you don't know... thing, just adds to it.

Woke up smiling this morning. (Chris is prepared to take the blame for that, lol)

It's a beautiful day. The sun is shining. It's Autumn. Chris is adding two more lights to the garden. Solar powered, as all our outdoor lights are.

I best get moving before I run out of time... the blood worked well . :)

I have a plan so cunning...

Actually it may indeed be too cunning... but I doubt it.

Because someone hasn't got his pc fixed yet - he won't learn of the plan until I scare the bejesus out of him tomorrow night. If only I could stop the grin on my face and the evil laugh! I love it when a plan simmers in my mind then comes together as if by magick.

Gotta make blood later today. Gonna need a few syringes full. (sixty mil)

So anyway, how is everyone? Have my listening concerned face on - so make the most of it, it doesn't happen often and may not be repeated again this year.

I'm quite concerned about this plan remaining secret... it's going to be bloody hard not to fire off a text or let slip while having our nightly cuppa.
There will be biting of tongues... well, I will be, no need for anyone elses tongue or teeth to be involved at all, ever.

Moving right along before I let slip and some bright spark thinks I know that person and tells all.

What next?

That's right the annoyance of Facebook, yes I know, I have mentioned how I hate it before. But now it's really gone too far.
I was emailing MY FRIENDS in Facebook with a blurb and a link to buy killerbyte. Yes, that's right shameless self promotion. Facebook had the cheek to warn me about being inappropriate! What a fucn cheek! My friends, my email, my book - nothing untoward at all. Wankers.
Quite frankly I don't need their encouragement I can be inappropriate if I want to be. Now I find myself falsely accused... may as well go ahead and do the crime.

Unimpressed almost covers it, if you add some snarling and cursing.

Then they suggested I make a fan page... stupid.
So I did.
But how does one tell people about it if you can't email all your friends on Facebook? Such shite!
I can't even get the fucking URL because they've hidden them all and I can't find it, or the one to my actual Facebook page... what is the point of using Facebook if you can't email friends?
Am I missing something... is it NOT a social network site?

Dick heads!

Just let me get this out of my system or the zombies tomorrow night may truly become zombies.

Thank you for your patience.

Oh dear, the puppy next door is crying... Breezy is outside eating and I guess Raro wants some too.

Apart from the upset of Facebook this morning, it's been rather pleasant today. Imagined myself working.
Good thing I have a vivid imagination.

Yesterday I did manage to write a couple of thousand words, Satellite is coming along nicely. I also managed to have a bit of a tweak at Terrorbyte. I really need to devote some time and energy to polishing that story, it is the one after killerbyte, after all.

killerbyte

Had a bit of fun on twitter today. Incredibly. I've been slow to see the merit or joy of it. But have finally discovered some more kiwis and a few pesky Australians (ones cute but short - I like him!) , so the chance for actual conversation is higher than before.
It feels almost like progress.

Had fun chat with Lee too in twitter. He's looking at place just around the corner from us tomorrow and looks like he and Ami will be mixed up in my cunning plan. In fact he offered a solution to what could be a sticking point for Chris.

No, you can wait... I shall tell you on Sunday... it may involve pictures.

Mojo JoJo and the giant adventure

Current mood:tired...but happy

It's getting late on Wednesday night - tomorrow Jo Jo is heading to Christchurch to live. after making the decision a few weeks ago.
It's all very exciting. She's off to do her thing and hopefully that will eventually involve Art school at Canterbury Uni.

She's going back with her Chrissy and Tink in the morning. I think they have to be out of the house at some ungodly hour... before seven I believe! I'm thinking I may not be awake...

We've had a lovely few days, it's been fun.

Last night, after having a small tantrum over the shitty bloody bollocky Epson transfer paper... okay it wasn't so small. Kane came in during the tail end. And saved the day.
The backing paper is not coming away from the printed surface without tearing and sticking, and then requires hours of careful picking to remove it!
NEVER has this happened before, I am suspecting a bad batch of paper. Tomorrow it goes back and I will have a replacement BUT not from that batch.
So anyway... Kane managed to get the last annoying bits of paper off my sweatshirt. I don't think he's seen me look quite so pissy before.

I did consider that drinking wasn't smart... it was brief and followed by a bottle of Shiraz. (And that followed a very nice Merlot)

Eventually the tarot cards came out to play, and I found the perfect home for the Moon garden tarot. I've had them for years but they never belonged to me. They weren't for me, and I always knew it.
Moon garden for the Cancer... I gave them to Kane. Judging by the reading they were happy to be given.

Ended up being a late night and involved much laughter.

In case you've missed it.... killerbyte

Fairly early morning this morning... I'm a little tired now. :)

Josh took these pics tonight, no clue what happened to my camera - it started out fine and the pics ended up grainy and shite... odd.

The comment has been made that one nice photo would be lovely! I don't see that
happening.... LOL

The joy of being home...

Got in to Wellington about 4:30 yesterday afternoon, have to say I was delighted to see the city. Felt like a long bloody week. Well it was a long week - involving many painkillers to attempt to kill the headache I left with.

Chrissy, Breezy, Tink and I walked through the door here just after five... my first act was to say hello to Chris - who had missed me. The house was immaculate! It's like no kids were here for a week!!! Within a half hour it was 'lived' in again... The second thing I did was open a bottle of red... and unwind, and convince Kane next door that he needed a glass or three. (Squealer is staying down South for another week, so I get a break for the first time in months.)

Two bottles later... Chrissy put herself to bed, Kane and I said goodnight. The kids were fast asleep and I was home! Really home.

This morning I woke early. Smiling. No headache, despite the quantity of wine I consumed. Seems the headache was related to being away and not to anything I was doing or not doing. Well I guess it kinda was a 'not doing' thing, as I was stressing about not being able to blog, or email, or text, or keep in touch with anyone at all. Usually I love being in the Sounds, but this is the first time I've had a novel released and being so out of touch was majorly stressful. As it is, it will take days to get through all the email backlog. I don't know if I am brave enough to open my yahoo account... lol.

Have now caught up on laundry, etc. Got a large roast in the oven... we're going to need to get more wine. :)

I think something is happening on Saturday - but am at a loss as to what that is. It involves fruitcake, this much I know... I got a text from Michelle saying the fruitcake was ready for the weekend.... I have a feeling whatever it is was discussed at the book launch, but the only thing I remember talking about is a Tequila day (holidays, doesn't have to be night) this Tuesday. Lee, any ideas? lol. I can see I'm going to have to pop next door and ask Kane if he remembers.

Meanwhile, managed to buy killerbyte for the parents... they couldn't quite figure it out. Mobipocket is not a difficult site to use, so it's done and now they can read. (Well maybe)

God it's good to be back... even better to have a pc that works, and internet on tap.

I did get some writing done, but that is in a notebook and long hand. At some stage I will add it to Satellite. Should be a fun thing to do later this week. Nice to be writing again. Nice to be talking to Ellie and Mac again.

Why is twitter over capacity so often... it bugs me. Really bugs me. And it's slow.

From Marlborough

Good morning - no clue what the actual date is, but it's four sleeps till I will be back home and blogging with pics of this trip!

The kids are kinda having fun, Squealer ended up at the doctors yesterday - on the nebuliser and then on steriods. She seems improved now, but is on steriods for the next two days. (She is also back on Flexitide now)
Breezy has been tearing around like a loon. We played hide and seek inthe bush and the garden yesterday. There were photos but then I had to delete them from my phone to take pics of the jelly fish I was annoying earlier today.

While I am down here (in low tech, no tech land... and have to text by getting to the highest point of the house and raising my arm above my head - or going to the beach!) I've been thinking about competition ideas.

I have a few, admittedly one of them was Kanes, and I had it before I left. Thats the killerbyte crossword idea. '
Its a good one and if I can find the program I used to have that generates crosswords... I'll create one when I get home!
The next idea was a kinda twenty questions game. - I'm thinking on this currently. Let's hope my brain is still working without technology to help it.

I also have the urge to write... of course I don't really want to work form my flash drive... in fact I'm not sure that this pc can cope with me doing that.

Am about to disappear and clean this machine... really clean it!

Stay cool till I get home.. will try and check in again soon... go buy killerbyte, and read the awesome review!

I've been awake half the night...

It's now after six this Thursday morning. That would be the 9th of April. Which makes tomorrow Good Friday, and the release day, and the launch BBQ.
Currently it's pissing with rain.. but that is supposed to disappear during the morning - Toni said so all week on the TV 3 news, and we believe her! Tomorrow will be fine... it will be perfect.
We will light up the backyard with a 500 watt halogen lamp - and party.

Thinking along those lines... might pay if I had some Panadiene on hand for Saturday morning.

Today - the excitement on being on Amazon is still with me - accounts for being awake half the night. And Joan De La Haye sent me a cool email, after Googling me and killerbyte. Tempted to print it and keep it, in my scrap book. The first result was Amazon and then this blog, right after it. It's so cool.

So far the only person who can't make it to the BBQ tomorrow is an ED doc who is away. So it should be fabulous fun.
There will be pictures, and movie sequences. Now that Chris has discovered the joy of green screen - and exploding heads... there is no telling what kind of blood bath the BBQ will become in the end!

Squealer has a friend staying over tomorrow night - I am hoping it will keep her occupied. Breezy won't need occupying as Caedy and Conman will be here for her, and she goes to bed at 6- 6:30. I'm thinking Caeds will stay - he wanted Pops to get him (cos that's what he does) so he could stay again last weekend. Him and Breezy are inseparable - they walk around hand in hand being spontaneously cute! - I think it's while they are deciding what to get into next... :)

Today I have to make sure everything is done - might even clean my desk! Amazing!! Have some baking to do, I feel the need to make Brownies - this recipe has a kilo of chocolate, 9 eggs etc... have a courier arriving sometime with a celebration cake (just like in the movies) friend Michelle has organized it. And the baker found me on Amazon. (I love that bit, it's so cool!)

Oh my I forgot to get furniture polish... bugger, will have to remember that tonight when I go get South African wine (My publisher is South African - so it seemed fitting...) and as much as I hate to admit it, my current favorite wine isn't a New Zealand one - it's Australian... I'm such a traitor. I shall hang my head in shame while guzzling the Merlot.

Jo Jo is coming today - staying tonight - and giving me a hand with the getting organised thing. Which is fabulous. Will be in dire need of another pair of hands - especially while melting all the choc for the brownie recipe.

Got a text while I was sleeping last night (its not unusual) Chrissy is coming home with us from The Sounds on the 19th. Yay. Will pass that along to Chris, he doesn't have to come pick us up from the Ferry as she's bringing her car across.

Crikey it's really bucketing down outside.. don't lose faith... it wil be sunny and fine for the BBQ!!!

It's time I made more coffee and started getting sorted... no one is up yet, so that's a good time to get things done.

I've been walking around with a grin on my face for weeks now - it's now permanent... amazing how many people see that as a challenge and do their damnedest to wipe it away! What's with that? Suck it up people, I'm a happy person - deal with it!
I think with some - if they did smile their faces really would crack and fall off. Should I start carrying crazy glue?

Be good y'all.

Confuse people - smile!

Monday morning and four sleeps...

Current mood:excited, aren't you?

So where have I been?

At lunch time on Saturday the girls and I found new bush walk at our park - marvelous! When we emerged into light once more Breezy's keen eyes spotted her favorite person. With renewed energy she wriggled from my arms and took off across the park shrieking, "Kane! Kane!"
The four kids played - and so did we. Great fun was had by all. Four o'clock came around quickly and Breezy suddenly wanted to go home. Turns out she was thirsty - and downed two mugs of lemonade once we were home.

It was a lovely afternoon. Squealer had as much fun as Breezy - which was great. She actually joined in and played ball etc.

Sunday - with the ending of Day light savings we found ourselves up early and good to go. Chris decided to get the lawns done - in preparation for the BBQ on Friday.
So he did the backyard then started on the front (which didn't really need doing... cos our very nice neighbor does it - although lately its been the stabbing victim who has been doing it - Mr. Next-door has delegated.) so Chris did the front, then spent five minutes undoing the gate of next-doors place, so he could do their front too.... ya gotta be quick!

Then it was off to the Warehouse to return our Gazebo... we got it for Christmas from Michelle and Marek, only to have one leg break off the third time we used it.
They didn't have any in stock - due to it being autumn now... so I opted for an outdoor table and four chairs (which I've wanted since we got the new deck...) so now we have it. YAY. Just the thing for the BBQ. Now all I need is a working laptop - and I could be sitting outside working!! - which would be perfect.

And I bought Chris a flood light... 500 watts, halogen bulb. We wanted light for Friday - the joy of day light saving ending is that we'll be outside in the dark, lol.
So last night he tried it out. He put a hook up on the fire escape ladder and hung the lamp from it...
We'll be wearing sunnies on Friday night - especially if we're on the grass and facing the house!!!
The back yard lit up like daylight.
I can see that it might make the grumpy assed troll who lives behind us a bit pissy... so we'll angle the light down a bit more! No doubt, he'll bitch and moan. No doubt, I'll try to care and fail.

A sad predicament has arisen... my Jovi jeans. You know the ones with the album covers down the right leg... they are too big! I put them on this morning and even a belt ain't gonna help. They've gotten baggy in the thighs and ass as well... not impressed, and yet I am. The joy is I've obviously lost weight.
That would explain my need to wear a belt with all my jeans!
So... I'll get smaller jeans...

Let me just say.. Vista Print rock!

The car magnet has arrived, so have the oversized postcards, and my cap. I always wear one (NZ sun is dangerous) so I may as well be advertising Killerbyte while I do!! (and it's got my name on the back.. .gotta love it)

Crikey - there was something else I wanted to say but Breezy just got me to put a really tricky top on a Bratz and now I can't remember what it was... lol

Oh yeah - Chris spent all yesterday with a video editing program learning how to add special effects such as explosions, muzzle flashes, spurting blood... he now requires a green screen. Of course! And wants to do some more filming.
Chances are he'll end up making something fun from any filming we do at the BBQ.

For now it's back to the real world... vacuuming, dishes, beds, and bathrooms all need doing.

Currently Breezy is watching Crush. She's having a Jovi day. And that works for me.

I need to sit down later today and write a list of things I need to do before Friday. - blogs etc, and also things like groceries - it's been suggested that Chocolate Brownies might be good... and I want to make a choc cheesecake.
Need booze too... as tempting as tequila is, I think we'll stick to wine and save the tequila until Chrissy is here. (unless some Crazy Mexicans find there way onto my shopping list.)

Y'all be good ya hear!

I'll be back tomorrow night - see ya then.
